So, as I mentioned in my first post, I am the director for the video board at my high schools football stadium. The video board is basically the best thing ever, I love running the video board. We have lots of thing going on in preparation for the first game this Friday.
First off, me and my friend Will Seitz have been working on the intro video since July, and we just finished it up last week. The video is basically a pump up video that plays on the video board while the team is coming out of the locker room This is probably my favorite video that I have ever made. Back in July we started prepping for the video. We started with the music- we spent over a week looking through epic songs on YouTube. After lots of cuts, we finally decided on a really epic song called Velocitron. We had also been watching alot of videos from other schools (mostly colleges). We saw USC's intro video and we knew that that was what we wanted ours to be like. So we got the music and we got the ideas, then it was time to shoot. We planned the shoot for a Friday morning before two a days started. I had set it up for 9:30 and somehow we didn't end up starting till 11:00 so that was kinda stressing me out. Anyways, once we were finally ready to start shooting, I was really excited. We had about 12 players there to be in the video (They were the teams leadership group). We explained to them what we were going for and showed them the USC video and we started moving. The players had exactly the right idea in their head and the shoot went very smoothly. I was quite pleased. After all of that Will and I sat down to look at the footage and I was slightly disappointed. Everything looked great, except for one thing... the coloring. So we were bouncing around ideas, and Will came up with the Idea to use a "Sin City" effect (this is when the video is all black and white except for one color - in our case red). We tried it out on a few of the clips and I was thrilled with the turnout. So we had that issue solved, but the problem was that it takes a really long time to put this effect on the video, and we had a lot of video. So Will went home and started working on that while I started looking through some highlights from past seasons. A few days later, we met back up and started piecing the video together. The video came together, and we put lots of effects and filters to make it look really cool and we finished... but there was still something missing. And after watching it over and over and over again, we finally realized what it was. We needed some more audio elements. So we went back and added some sound effects, but it still wasn't quite there yet. But then we found the crowning jewel. We found some audio clips from the radio announcers over the past few years and matched them up with a few of the most exciting highlights. After that it was done!
I am really excited to premiere our intro video this Friday at the home opener. It gets my stomach churning every time I watch it, and I can't wait to see how the fans react.
More to come about the video board...
